People ask… what is Movember?
The goal of No–Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.
Donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle in particular.
Movember is an annual event involving the growing of mustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide.
Bringing Awareness to Movember
Cancer….that is not a positive word. I don’t think it provides people with that feel-good feeling or puts a smile on their face, however, CANCER is real, it happens, it sucks. AND YET… people recover, people heal, and people live.
There are many different cancers out there. This month, November, is “No Shave November.” Can you think of a male, a co-worker, a friend, a brother, a father, a grandfather, a son that has been diagnosed with cancer? I think we all can think of someone. Let’s celebrate them, remember them, send a text to them saying you are thinking about them, give them a call tonight, send them a message.
Participating in Movember?
To be honest, I never really knew what Movember meant until a few years ago. I just thought it was funny to see all the grown out beard and the “trend” of all the mustaches that were going around. I think that happens a lot, where we don’t really know what the meaning is behind the action that we see others doing. We may decide to jump on board because everyone else is doing it, or we may say, “that’s stupid,” and not participate ,even though we don’t actually know the full meaning behind it. Well I am here to say, the meaning behind Movember is positive and good. Let the no shaving begin!
Other Ways to Show Support and Spread Awareness
I would love to know other ways people bring about awareness. What do you do, what do you notice? Here is what I have noticed that are all close to my heart.

‘Tis the Season for GIVING (hint: it’s not just about money)
It is the season of giving thanks. At this time of year, you read all about bringing awareness to various causes. I invite you to give. And no, I don’t just mean money (although feel free if you want). Give back, volunteer, give thanks, give your time, donate, put a green light up for Veterans Day coming up this weekend… anything that is meaningful to you. When you give back, even when you are feeling down, it is something special, because you may start to feel better!
