PS… My blog was inspired by this article sent to me from my Dad. Thanks Dad!
Routine
How many of us have a routine? We all do, even if we don’t recognize it or are aware of it! If you take a second and think about how your day has been going, what routine(s) can you pick out?
- Some of us wake up to that morning coffee.
- Drive into work while listening to our favorite podcast or music.
- Notice what you eat during the day and the times you eat throughout the day.
- What route you pick to drive the kids to school or go to work or the gym.
My hope this that now you are becoming aware of your day to day and what you do.
Are your routines healthy and effective?
Yes, some routines can be unhealthy or ineffective. Have you heard the saying. “If you do the same thing over and over and wonder why you don’t see different results?” It may be because you are stuck in a ineffective routine or habit. “How do we get different results, change things up!”
Some questions to ask yourself that may help you decided what routines or habits need to change:
- Am I getting the results I want to see?
- How am I feeling in the moment?
- How do I feel after?
- Is this helpful or harmful to myself or others?
- Am I willing and ready to change?
Why routines are important:
I ask you….Why are routines important? Say it out loud or write it down!
It helps to keep us on track. Structure in our life. Helping us take control of what we can control in a world where a lot of things are out of control. They may help use to keep moving forward!
Morning routines:
The mornings can be the most important part of your day. This is when you set your mindset, your body, your intentions for the rest of the day, for a whole 24 hours, and then you re-set the next morning. Now, here’s not to say you can’t re-set mid day or multiple times in one day, sometimes that is a must, especially if you’re derailing from your day.
It has taken a while to get my morning routine down, and there are times when I truly struggle. For the most part:
- I wake up right before my alarm, or sometimes 30 minutes before (that totally sucks)
- I try to stretch, try to NOT grab my phone or check my emails.
- I smile, even those smile muscles need to be waken up.
- I say one thing I forgive myself for the previous day, and one thing I am grateful for.
- I try to take some deep breaths, get out of bed, most likely I have looked at my phone by now, turn off all of the noise makers and fans, open the blinds and say “hello world.”
- I then try to drink a glass of water.
- Depending on the day I go workout with my best friend, shower, get ready (usually a pile of clothes end up on my bed trying to figure out what to wear), watch T.V, and then usually rush out the door with a breakfast bar or fruit in hand.
- Are there things I can improve on, yes of course, does this happen everyday, of course not. Is this a routine that works for me (for now)….Yes!
Here are some more tips of how to have a morning routine!
Conclusion
Find the routine that works for you, alter it to be better, and take out things that are harmful or hurtful to you or others. Be kind to yourself!
Warmly,
Katie
