Yes, you heard right, the third season is officially out for the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why.”
Disclaimer: if you are in immediate danger or are currently suicidal call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
On August 23rd of this year, season 3 officially became available for Netflix users to watch. Talking about this show is a very delicate thing. Even watching it is very delicate. This is why we have to keep an open and strong mind.
Most people didn’t expect for it to air because of the rumors about the show getting cancelled. It’s been said that season four will be their last and final season. The producers also altered the scene of Hannah’s suicide in season 1 due to public reaction. They may have done this because of how much attention the show has gotten and not wanting to impact teens’ suicidal thoughts. But it is not official that this is the reason why. WARNING! Spoilers are included in this article.
The Murder Mystery
One major thing that goes on in this season is the mystery of who killed Bryce (the person who raped Hannah, Jessica, and Chloe). But, this season brings in a new character named Ani, who narrates for the season. She actually is a new student al Liberty High, and lives in the guest house of Bryce’s parents the reason being that her mother works for them. Her observations of every little detail makes her more intrigued into what has been going on around the town.
She joins Clay to find out who killed Bryce. But of course, as they dig deeper and deeper, everyone has their reasons as to why they had something against him. Through the investigation, people began to wonder if Bryce really was a bad person. And they wonder if he was given the chance, could he have changed to be a better person?
Tyler Improving
One thing that we also see through the episodes of this new season is Tyler’s improvement. The same group from season 1 and 2 come together to help cover up Tyler’s big mistake and get closer to him. This is something that is very warming about the season, in my opinion. He finally opens up a little bit more, and talks about how he can become better. But the same incidents still invade his mind sometimes. Obviously he encounters a few obstacles, one being that everyone suspects that he was the one who killed Bryce, this being because of his mistake.
Jessica’s Rage
If you have watched the other seasons, you know that Jessica is a rape victim. Her case was so life changing, and you’d think how messed up people were for not stopping Bryce from what he did. In this season, she tries to make a change by becoming president of the student council and trying to bring down the jocks. Later then, protesting at Bryce’s funeral becomes an idea for the group.
During this season, Jessica becomes more aware of how her actions are creating corruption. She also begins to think that Bryce didn’t deserve to die. The producers aim to ask the audience whether people like Bryce really do deserve second chances. But this obviously has to be something that people who engage in rape, murder and bully others have to commit to. Everyone deserves to become better, or do they? It’s a poignant question in the season.
